Art Investment Opportunities

Art Investment

Many people buy art because they love it, which is the foremost reason as to why you would buy a beautiful work of art that inspires you.  Its something you just "need to have" on your wall.  Whether it is the work itself, the colours, the personal messages or for interior design reasons most spaces that surround us contain art in various forms.  Painterly, decorative, sculptural, textural, functional........

Aboriginal Art has been selling strongly to people of all ages for many reasons and for many years.  Something that has recently transpired though is collecting Aboriginal Art for investment purposes.  The art market is a fluctuating one in terms of an artwork “fetching a price” either through an auction a private sale.

People are starting to change what it is they buy.  They are becoming collectors.  Collectors can vary immensely as to why they collect and what they collect.  Some collectors not only choose what it is they like but what forms the basis of their collection ie concentrating on a specific area such as bark paintings or perhaps Utopia artists.  Other collectors are driven purely by investment purposes and conduct research into which artists are fetching big prices, now or potentially in the future.

At Bundarra Gallery we are exposed to the art market daily and we deal with the fluctuating prices that artworks and artists are commanding.  We can assist those interested in starting a collection for investment and can offer basic advice as to what we believe the art market is currently doing.  We suggest however that you do your own research and we can point you in the direction of the various organizations that can assist you in areas of art investment including auction houses, catalogues and magazines, websites etc…  If you are serious about art investment we also suggest that you speak with a wealth adviser or financial planner who can discuss with you also options relating to purchasing art through your superannuation scheme or trust.
